Imre Schrammel porcelain figurines

Venice Carnival Collection

Carnival

The clown is a symbol of truthfulness. The plain truth, when told, offends people's vanity, which is only endured from a fool. So those born to be truthtellers have to don a fool's motley. One would not go far wrong to generalize from that, and apply it to the arts as a whole.

from the Venice Carnival

People have a deep-seated longing for luxury. Carnival is a time when they can turn, for a brief spell, into a king, duchess, Apollo or Venus. The light of precious stones shines opalescent from the porcelain, from which the finely drawn patters conjure the symbols of carnival.
