Every mortal man desires that
his wildest dreams may once come true, with the aid of supernatural
forces. This urge lies concealed inside
all magic, which is why the Sorcerer, the repository of great secrets,
is a figure found in every culture. He is the one who assumes the
mantle of the universe and intercedes
between Heaven and Earth. This figure, who also appears at carnivals,
is symbolized by Herend's 'Magician.'

The proud lady, with her high medieval head-dress
and amply pleated mantle, is partner to the Magician. Her richly decorated veil,
symbolizing Heaven and Earth, conceals the source of her strength, the eternal enigma of
feminine appeal. |
