Darius
The Gift of Life - (First in a Series
of Holiday Angels)
|

Darius
| Camelus Dromedarius (that’s one hump, not two), the “ship
of the desert.” So important were camels to life and travels
in the deserts of the Middle East that in the language of the Bedouin
the words for “camel” translate to “God’s
gift.” It seems fitting that a caravan of beasts so aptly named
would have transported these gift-bearing wise men as they followed
the star that foretold the birth of the messiah. Our particular camel
was so valued by his owner that he was named for the great Persian
king, Darius I and was the only camel in the train allowed to sleep
in his owner’s tent. |

The Gift of Life
"A baby is God’s opinion that life should go on.” — Carl
Sandburg Perhaps the finest capacity we have been granted as humans is
to bring new life into this world. As parents, grandparents or
brothers and sisters we all have had the chance to experience the
wonder and joy inspired by the birth of a new child. The heart
of Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Gift of
Life, the first in our third set of Holiday Angels, serves as a
subtle reminder that the miracle of every birth is a gift from
heaven. |
